The resolution largely echoes Israel's three-step proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza that President Biden presented to the public.
The UN Security Council has adopted an American resolution with a phased plan for a ceasefire in Gaza outlined earlier by United States President Joe Biden.
The draft was approved by 14 countries, Russia abstained.
The resolution basically repeats Israel's 3-stage proposal for a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave presented by Biden. The document calls on Hamas to accept the initiative accepted by Israel. It also calls on both sides to fully implement the terms of the initiative without delay or preconditions.
The first phase of the plan, according to the resolution, includes an immediate full cease-fire, the withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza's population centers, the release of hostages held by Hamas, and the exchange of arrested Palestinians.
The second phase involves an indefinite cessation of hostilities agreed to by the parties in exchange for the release of the remaining hostages, as well as the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza.
The third phase calls for the beginning of a multi-year plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
The resolution rejects any attempt at demographic or territorial change in the Palestinian enclave, including any action that reduces Gaza's territory.
Earlier, officials who resigned over Joe Biden's policies on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict had turned against him.
