Tikhanovskaya declines to run in new presidential election

She noted that it is possible to benefit society without being the head of state. She also promised to help her fellow citizens at all times.

Ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya stated that she is not going to run for presidency in the new presidential elections, when they are announced. Tihanovskaya voiced her position in a live broadcast on her channel on YouTube.

She added that the thought of re-nominating her candidacy did not arise from the very beginning - primarily because she had promised her fellow citizens to be president during the transition period, and then to announce new elections and leave power.

The opposition activist noted that it is possible to contribute to society without holding the presidency. She promised to continue supporting the Belarusians.

Tikhanovskaya also stated that she had no plans to create her own party, but supported the initiative of Viktor Babaryko to create the party "Vmeste".

It should be reminded that according to the official data of the Belarusian authorities, Tikhanovskaya received about 10% of the votes in the election of August 9, 2020, while President Lukashenka received 80% of the votes.
