Russia has begun buying military equipment from North Korea, The New York Times reported, citing U.S. intelligence.
According to the newspaper, Russia is forced to turn to North Korea to buy "millions of shells and missiles" because of sanctions that have "seriously altered the supply chain. The publication indicated that Russia would buy other equipment from Pyongyang in addition to short- and medium-range missiles.
"The Russian Armed Forces continue to suffer from an acute shortage of supplies in Ukraine," the article quotes the source as saying.
The newspaper did not provide details on the timing and volume of supplies.
In late summer, Andrei Kortunov, director general of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs, said that Russia's military cooperation with the DPRK and Iran was possible if it was not related to ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
