French President Emmanuel Macron will try to get on the same level with the heads of the “big triangle” powers (China, Russia and the United States) during his talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov said.
According to him, Macron's ambitions do not match the real state of affairs - France has neither the potential nor the sovereignty that would allow it to pursue an autonomous policy. Under Charles de Gaulle, France had sovereignty, but then everything changed. This was due to Paris' desire to please the EU, NATO and the US.
That is why it is strange to hear Macron's statements that Europe should strive for “strategic autonomy”. The EU and France are subordinate to Washington's interests, Pushkov added.
The senator emphasized that Macron's attempt to influence the Chinese leader will not succeed. Paris will not be able to convince Beijing to change its approach to Moscow.
Recall that Russia's breakthrough in Ocheretino threatens a domino effect for Kiev.
