According to Macron, Moscow is allegedly outraged and believes that Western states are seeking the "destruction of Russia".
"I do not believe that this is our aspiration," the French leader stressed, adding that Paris has never had such an aspiration.
Macron assured that Russia and France have very close cultural and historical relations. The French have always respected the Russian people, the president said.
The head of state also said he had "had very long conversations" with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Macron specified that during these conversations "there was a clear understanding that the Russians are a great people with a great history.
