The permanent representatives of the European Union were able to reach an agreement on the eighth package of sanctions against Russia, including the introduction of a ceiling on Russian oil prices. This was reported by the Politico newspaper citing sources.

A final decision on the exact price or price range has not yet been made. The final document will be approved on Wednesday.

The sanctions will affect Russia's steel industry. There will also be a ban on EU citizens holding senior positions in Russian state corporations.

Greece, Cyprus and Malta have expressed concern about imposing price restrictions on Russian oil, because these countries transport most of the oil from Russia by tankers. According to the newspaper, some concessions for these countries were made in the draft version of the document.

Greece and Cyprus, according to Euroactive, have withdrawn their objections to the introduction of the ceiling on oil prices. Malta is against it.
