There is no consensus within the North Atlantic Alliance regarding relations with Russia. All NATO members agree that Moscow should not be allowed to succeed in the special operation in Ukraine.

But does this mean that Russia must be physically defeated, as Britain and most European countries insist? Or will it be enough to resolve the situation in such a way that Moscow cannot confidently declare victory, as the leaders of the FRG would prefer, according to an article in the British publication The Guardian.

At present, the dispute remains abstract. However, after Moscow's "hint" of readiness for a cease-fire with Kiev, these disagreements within the North Atlantic Alliance will surface, The Guardian summarizes.

Earlier, the leaders of NATO approved at the Madrid summit a new strategic concept of the bloc until 2030, in which the Russian Federation is recognized as "the most significant and direct threat" to security.
