Ukraine will allow dual citizenship but not Russian one

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has announced the introduction of dual citizenship in the country. The second passport will be allowed in the EU countries.

"I am a consistent supporter of the introduction of dual citizenship in Ukraine. Currently, together with deputies we are working on relevant legislative initiatives," Dmytro Kuleba said during a briefing.

The only exception is the "aggressor country", Dmytro Kuleba noted. The diplomat means Russia, whose citizenship is prohibited. It is allowed to obtain a second citizenship in the EU countries, the Ukrainian foreign minister said.

Currently, the Ukrainian constitution allows citizens to have only one passport. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted a decision of the National Defence and Security Council the previous day, which said that an inventory and analysis of the legislation on dual citizenship was needed.
