President Joe Biden invited Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron to a state dinner Thursday night, the first since the election of an American head of state, Le Parisien reports.
During this state visit, filled with diplomatic affection, Emmanuel Macron and Joe Biden never failed to demonstrate their mutual understanding, both on acute issues and on a more personal level. Thursday ended, traditionally, with a state dinner, during which the Americans intended to impress France on a culinary level.
According to CNN, a large marquee was set up in the White House garden for the cocktail party, seating about 400 guests. Among the roughly 350 guests were fashion pope Anna Wintour, actress Jennifer Garner and musician John Legend.
The meal continued with lobster, wine and American cheeses on the menu. Under this lavishly decorated tent, the two heads of state exchanged toasts in front of microphones, Joe Biden said in French "vive la France", to which Emmanuel Macron replied "long live the friendship between our two countries".
