Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In it, the politician described the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and asked to describe the form of support that the Russian leader is ready to provide.
"The Armenian Prime Minister asked the Russian President to start consultations on determining the degree and form of support that Moscow can provide to support security. The work should be carried out in accordance with article 2 of the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance of August 29, 1997," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia reports.
The Armenian Prime Minister said that fighting continues on the border of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. In particular, foreign armed terrorists who are transferred by Ankara from the Middle East take part in them, the letter says.
Russia and Armenia are CSTO allies, so the participating countries can ask for military assistance from each other in case of external aggression. Moscow has repeatedly noted that there is no direct armed confrontation between Yerevan and Baku.
Nikol Pashinyan previously advocated the entry of Russian peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh. This decision will be optimal, the Prime Minister of Armenia noted.
