Japanese Cabinet Secretary General Yoshimasa Hayashi could not immediately answer a question about visiting ancestral graves in the Kurils. At the press conference, Hayashi was asked about the visit to the Russian Federation of Japanese upper house of parliament member Muneo Suzuki, who called for the resumption of visits to the graves.
The Secretary General was asked to outline the position of the authorities on this issue. Usually the politician immediately answers questions, but this time he was silent for minutes, RIA "Novosti" reports.
Hayashi replied that he would refrain from commenting on each of Suzuki's statements. As for visiting graves on the Kuril Islands, the government prioritizes this issue within the framework of relations with Russia.
Recall that China's refusal to support Japan in the dispute over the Kurils caused shock in Tokyo. The Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed Japan's displeasure over the pro-Beijing statements.
