The Greek Foreign Ministry strongly protested to the Russian ambassador in connection with the retaliatory expulsion of Greek diplomats.
According to information posted on the official site of the Greek Foreign Ministry, the Russian ambassador in Athens protested against the expulsion of members of the Greek diplomatic mission from Russia.
Athens considered these actions of the Russian side to be disproportionate to the measures that the Greek authorities took against the staff of the Russian Embassy. The report said that Russian diplomats did not correspond to their status and therefore were declared persona non grata.
"The expulsion of the Greek diplomats has no justification other than disproportionate retaliation. It was also stressed that the above-mentioned Greek diplomats in no way violated the Vienna Conventions," the Greek Foreign Ministry said.
In addition, the Russian ambassador was protested because of recent statements made by Russian officials.
