The Moscow Department of Transportation announced the renaming of the metro station “Kommunarka” on the Sokolnicheskaya line to “Novomoskovskaya”. This change, as reported in the department, should soon be reflected in the navigation at the station.
According to the Deptrans, the new name reflects the importance of the station as the first interchange hub in New Moscow. Kommunarka station will remain on the Troitskaya line under construction and will be located closer to the clinical center and the settlement of the same name.
It is planned that the updated navigation will appear in the entire metro network. At the initial stage both names will be indicated on the signs and above the car doors. In the future the name “Kommunarka” will completely disappear from the navigation, as it was specified in the press release of the department.
The mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin earlier informed that till 2030 in capital it is planned to finish building and opening of three new subway lines: Troitskaya, Rublevo-Arkhangelskaya and Biryulevskaya. Also in the plans to introduce four new stations on the existing lines: “South Port” on Lublinsko-Dmitrovskaya, ‘Golyanovo’ on Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, ‘Potapovo’ on Sokolnicheskaya and ‘Suvorovskaya’ on the Ring Line.
Earlier, Deputy Mayor Vladimir Yefimov said that the construction of the station “Dostoyevskaya” of the Koltsevaya subway line is being built by mining method.
