Teenagers detained in Moscow for damaging memorial plaques

They were charged on several counts at once.

Two underage teenagers have been detained on suspicion of damaging memorial plaques in a park in New Moscow, Yulia Ivanova, senior assistant to the head of the Moscow branch of the Russian Investigative Committee, told reporters on Thursday.

According to the press and investigators, who learnt from media publications, the young men damaged three memorial plaques in a park in New Moscow in early February, RIA Novosti reported. The plaques were found to be dedicated to famous residents of the area, in particular a teacher from the Kommunarskaya school and front-line veteran Viktor Kesarev.

The suspects, two teenagers born in 2008, are charged under Articles 213 (hooliganism), 214 (vandalism) and 167 (damage to other people's property) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Both have not pleaded guilty. At present, the question of choosing a measure of restraint for them is being decided.
