Ildar Alyautdinov, chief imam of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, told RIA Novosti that Muslims would like to open prayer rooms in metro and shopping malls to make it possible to perform the five-time obligatory prayer without disturbing other citizens.

The imam said that prayer rooms are currently appearing in various institutions: airports, hospices and medical centers. They are also trying to make arrangements with shopping malls.

"On the Internet you can see believers praying in subway passages, so we are in talks about opening prayer rooms in the Moscow Metro as well," Alyautdinov said and noted that prayer in public places is "a necessity caused by the lack of sufficient prayer rooms in the city."
