Thanks to this surgery, the children will be able to lead a full and active life.
Cardiac surgeons at Morozovsky City Children's Clinical Hospital performed unique surgeries. Two children with heart defects had a heart valve installed from human donor tissues - a homograft.
It should be noted that about 30 similar operations have been performed in Russia. And Moscow was the first experience of this kind.
It is reported that operations were performed on the hearts of three-year-old Igor and four-year-old Pavel. They were diagnosed with congenital heart defects. Since infancy they had been under observation by a cardiologist.
The children were admitted to Morozovskaya Children's Hospital by referral.
Mikhail Abramyan, head of the Department of Emergency Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Cardiology at Morozovsky Children's Hospital, said that the children needed urgent surgery.
"The team of cardiac surgeons at the hospital decided to implant both patients with a freshly prepared pulmonary valve-containing homograft in the aortic position," the surgeon specified.
It should be noted that homografts are biological individual prostheses of blood vessels and heart valves.
A homograft can be made even for a newborn child - it grows together with the child to a certain size and allows you to do without a second operation for a longer period of time.
Thanks to the implant, the child can avoid taking anticoagulants.
Each of the two surgeries lasted about 3.5 hours. Nine days later, the children were discharged home in good health.
