Dangerous Spanish slugs that can carry E. coli, nematodes and helminths have been discovered in Moscow, Azamat Kunafin, head of the biodiversity monitoring division of Moscow's Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection, told Moscow 24. According to him, Spanish slugs appeared in the capital about ten years ago.
The expert explained that these slugs were probably imported from Europe together with planting material. Kunafin emphasized that slugs should not be touched with hands, as it can lead to parasite infestation.
However, he said, there is no reason to believe that Spanish slugs will flood Moscow. Not all pests survive in the conditions of cold Russian winters.
It is still difficult to assess the impact of these slugs on the ecosystem of Moscow due to the lack of comprehensive scientific research, the expert added.
Earlier Sobyanin promised the appearance in “Skolkovo” the first cluster for engineers of computer games, and also the mayor's office of Moscow prepared a historical festival in honor of the Day of Russia.
