On June 7, 2023, the website of the Moscow City Duma published a resolution announcing the date of the Moscow mayoral election, which means the official start of the election campaign in the capital.

At the plenary session the deputies of the capital's parliament decided to set the elections for the single day of voting on September 10.

Under current law, the election campaign begins immediately after the publication of the resolution.

Alexei Shaposhnikov, chairman of the Moscow City Duma, said that the majority of votes passed the resolution.

Within 30 days after the publication of the document will begin nominating candidates for mayor, as well as the collection of signatures from voters in their support.

Recall that at the moment Sergei Sobyanin holds this position, which was approved in his position by Moscow City Duma on the proposal of the then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on October 21, 2010.

Sobyanin has been re-elected to the post twice. In 2018, 70% of voters voted for him.
