The tragedy occurred on Nov. 30 at around 6 a.m. local time.
In Alma-Ata in the early morning of Thursday, November 30, a fire occurred in a hostel on Adi Sharipov Street, which caused the death of 13 people.
As reported in the city Department of Emergency Situations, the message about the fire on the duty desk was received at 05:33 local time and in seven minutes the first fire department arrived at the scene of the emergency.
"At the time of arrival there was burning in the basement of a three-story residential building, where the first floor and basement is converted into a hostel," - stated in the message on the website of the Department.
Firefighters, conducting fire extinguishing and reconnaissance in the rooms of the hostel, found 13 breathless bodies. The identities of people are being established. What caused their deaths, will be established by pathologists, but now we can say that all died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Another 59 people, who were in the hostel at the time of the fire, evacuated on their own.
The fire was extinguished at 06:22 local time. The area of burning amounted to 30 square meters. Investigators have to find out the cause of the fire.
