In the city of Mastung in the Pakistani province of Baluchistan there was a tragic explosion, as a result of which, according to the latest data, at least 52 people were killed and about 50 were injured, writes the publication Dawn. The incident took place during a religious procession near one of the mosques in the city.
Police said that the explosion was initiated by a suicide bomber. Earlier information from Geo TV channel claimed about seven dead and more than 25 injured in the explosion, which occurred near the mosque, where believers gathered to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
A police officer is among the victims, according to ARY News TV channel. All of the injured have been hospitalized, and local hospitals have declared a state of emergency. Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the scene of the incident, are investigating, and are taking measures to ensure security in the region.
