On July 29, an accident occurred in the Volgograd region, as a result of which a passenger train “Kazan - Adler” derailed. The frightening footage of the accident quickly went viral on social networks. According to the information provided by the press service of the Western Interregional Investigation Department of the Russian Federation's Investigative Committee for Transport, a criminal case has been opened over the accident.
Preliminary data indicate that the accident occurred in the Kotelnikovo district at the 185th kilometer of the Gremyachiy - Kotelnikovo crossing. On the way of the train was a KAMAZ, whose driver decided to skip in front of the moving train. The driver had no chance to brake and avoid collision, and as a result the truck was torn into two parts. At least eight cars with passengers inside went off the rails.
Investigators are already at the scene and are finding out the details of the incident. According to Russian Railways, train traffic on this section has been temporarily stopped. The driver of the truck was hospitalized, and information about victims and injured is being clarified. The rescue operation involves 324 EMERCOM employees and 109 units of equipment, including two Mi-8 helicopters.
The Governor of the Volgograd region held an operational meeting immediately after the incident at the railroad crossing.
According to preliminary data, ten out of 20 cars, including the locomotive, derailed. There were 812 passengers on the train. Now the information about the victims is being clarified. All emergency services are working at the scene. The operational headquarters was created, - commented the head of the region.
It is reported that the victims are evacuated from the scene of the incident by buses to temporary accommodation centers. Kotelnikovo district administration informs that the passengers of the train “Kazan - Adler” are being transported and placed in the “Impulse” House of Culture and the Center of Leisure and Culture of Kotelnikovo, where they will be provided with all the necessary assistance, - assure the representatives of the authorities. The timeframe for the restoration of train traffic on this section cannot be predicted yet.
