An explosion at an industrial warehouse in Tashkent has killed one 15-year-old schoolboy and injured 163 others, Uzbekistan's Health Ministry reports.
According to official reports, the boy, 15, died at the scene after a window frame fell on him, knocked out by the blast wave.
The total number of people injured in the explosion and subsequent fire was 163, of whom 24 were hospitalized for medical care.
According to the Uzbek Emergencies Ministry, the incident occurred on the night of September 23-24, around 02:43 local time (00:43 Moscow time), at one of the industrial warehouses located near the Tashkent airport.
The fire was localized and extinguished by 16 firefighting crews arriving on the scene at around 05:02 local time (03:02 Moscow time).
The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan confirmed the presence of the injured, but did not specify the exact number of victims.
Uzbekistan Airports reported that the incident did not affect the work of the capital's airport.
Local authorities promise to compensate the residents of houses damaged by the explosion and fire.
At the moment the investigation and work to eliminate the consequences of the incident, as well as to find out the causes of the explosion.
Recall that earlier the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Tyumen region informed about a gas explosion in one of the apartment buildings in Tyumen on the night of September 28.
