Sixteen people who were in the truck were hospitalized in serious condition.
On the outskirts of the city of San Antonio, Texas, a truck with the bodies of 46 dead migrants was found parked on a country road. Another 16 people who were inside the truck were alive and have been urgently hospitalized. This information was disseminated by the AP, citing the report of the competent authorities.
The truck was found on the evening of June 27th due to the cries for help from the truck. Sixteen people were admitted to the hospital with high fever and dehydration, four of them children. It was hot in San Antonio on Monday, with temperatures approaching 38 degrees Celsius.
According to State Police Chief William McManus, three people have been taken into custody over the incident.
As the agency notes, this tragedy is the largest in recent years. In 2003, 19 people died under similar circumstances, in 2017, an attempt to enter the US illegally by land ended in the death of ten migrants.
Earlier, it was reported that 12 migrants and 10 were missing when four boats crashed off the coast of Tunisia. There were about 120 people on board trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
