According to the Independent, the robbery took place on December 23 at the Bhauti branch of the State Bank of India in Uttar Pradesh.

The thieves dug a tunnel three meters long and took out ten million Indian rupees worth of gold.

When they broke in, they disabled the alarm, turned the only surveillance camera in the other direction, and opened the safe with a gas torch.

Investigators speculated that one of the intruders knew the bank's premises well. It probably could have been one of the institution's former employees as well.
