Riots are breaking out in Kenya, sparked by locals unhappy with the performance of the country's government and president.

In the Kenyan capital Nairobi, protesters stormed the parliament building, where on Tuesday a vote on the draft budget taking into account the tax increase was held. About it writes TASS.

According to Citizen, shots and explosions are heard in the city center, smoke is billowing from the windows of the parliament building, which the protesters managed to set on fire.

In the morning, the police cordoned off the business center of the city, where the parliament is located among administrative institutions. People chanting demands for the president's resignation began to flock here. Local media report that the police used tear gas and rubber bullets against the protesters. However, this does not stop there. Shooting with live ammunition is underway, and several people have already died as a result.

The protesters are unwilling to back down, despite the assurances of Kenyan President William Ruto that the government is ready to start a dialog.

The Russian Embassy in Kenya urged Russians in the country to take precautions against the protests.

Meanwhile, it is reported that U.S. President Biden called Kenya America's main ally outside the NATO North Atlantic Alliance.
