Two people killed in Haiti earthquake

The earthquake in Haiti injured 52 people, two more were killed.

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the department of Nippe on Monday morning, January 24, killing two people and injuring 52 others, according to the Haiti Civil Protection Authority.

"According to the civil protection directorate in Nippe, 191 homes were destroyed, 591 were damaged, and 834 families suffered damage," RFM Radio Haiti reported.

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henri expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and affected on Twitter. He pledged his support.

On Monday, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported that a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck the Haitian area. The tremor was detected at 13:16 UTC near the municipality of Petite Rivière de Nippes. The origin was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. After the first shock at 13:21 there was a second seismic shock with a magnitude of 3.7.
