33 people evacuated in Japan due to Sakurajima volcano eruption

Another 18 people refused to leave the danger zone.

In Japan, on the Osumi Peninsula of Kyushu Island in the evening of July 24 began the eruption of the volcano Sakurajima. Evacuation was announced for those living within a radius of three kilometers of the volcano, the NHK television channel reported.

Authorities reported that 33 people left the danger zone. 18 Japanese have refused to leave their homes. Totally 33 families were declared evacuated.

Meanwhile a meteorological management of Japan in connection with high activity of a volcano declared the highest, fifth, level of danger. Volcanic Rocks ejection was fixed at the distance of 2.5 km from Sakurajima. Occurrence of pyroclastic flows is expected.

Note that before 1914 Sakurajima volcano was an island, but after a major eruption lava flows connected with the Osumi Peninsula.
