The patient visited relatives in Nizhny Novgorod from June 12 to 15. There he tasted the purchased ready-made lobio salad. He complained about his health after that, but sought medical help only on June 16, when he returned to Kostroma region.
The Department of Health of the Kostroma region reported the death in hospital of a patient who contracted botulism after eating cooked salad.
The young man had been feeling unwell for several days, and on returning to Kostroma he called an ambulance. The medics urgently hospitalized him in the regional hospital. The guy complained of dizziness, lack of coordination.
He was immediately injected with antitoxic serum, put in the intensive care unit, connected to an artificial lung ventilation machine.
"Rescue <...> failed. The reason for this, among other things, was the fact that even at the first signs of indisposition, he did not immediately seek medical help," - noted in the department.
There were no other cases of botulism infection in Kostroma and the region.
In Nizhny Novgorod region, according to June 24, 17 cases of poisoning were detected. Three of them have already been discharged, seven patients are in intensive care.
In Tambov region, two people were hospitalized with signs of botulism, they were infected in Moscow.
Cases of the disease have also been registered in Moscow and Kazan.
