Russian Embassy in Bulgaria: there were no Russians on the bus in the accident

In Bulgaria, a tourist bus got into an accident, as a result of which 46 people died. the Russian embassy in Bulgaria commented on this incident.

"We asked the Ministry of Internal Affairs about the presence of Russians on the bus. There were no Russian citizens in the bus at the time of the accident," said Vladimir Chertkov, head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy.

Representatives of North Macedonia said that the bus was mostly occupied by citizens of their country. Also citizens with dual citizenship - Serbia and Belgium -  were on the bus.

The Bulgarian authorities are considering several versions of the tragedy. There are versions that the driver fell asleep while driving, the cause of the accident could be a wet road or a technical malfunction.

The accident occurred on the 31st kilometer of the Struma highway at approximately 02:00 local time. The bus was returning from Turkey to North Macedonia.
