Two residents of St. Petersburg were convicted of stealing cryptocurrency worth 55 million rubles

Petrogradsky district court of St. Petersburg sentenced two local residents for the theft of cryptocurrency worth 55 million rubles.

In St. Petersburg, in the Petrogradsky District Court, the verdict was announced to two persons involved in the criminal case on theft of a large sum of cash and cryptocurrency, the press service of the city prosecutor's office reported.

Pyotr Piron and Yevgeny Prigozhin will go to a strict regime colony for 9 and 7 years, respectively. They were found guilty under Article 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, on an especially large scale).

As it was found out, in the spring of 2018, the accomplices, using threats and the use of force, forced the victim, who was involved in managing accounts and converting cryptocurrencies, to transfer them 5 million rubles in cash. They also managed to get hold of access codes for managing cryptocurrency accounts worth more than 55 million rubles.
