In Myanmar, at least 15 people were killed by a tidal wave during a temple festival in Kyaikhami town

In Myanmar, 15 people drowned when a tidal wave hit worshippers during a temple festival of the Kyaikhami Yei Le pagoda. It was built on an island a few hundred meters from the shore.

The accident happened when hundreds of residents were in the middle of a stacked stone crossing to the island from the mainland.

On the day of the feast, boats were used to transport worshippers to the pagoda. Two boats collided and a wave swept the stranded people out of the water.

Eyewitnesses reported that several people were injured and there were reports of people missing.

The rescue operation in Mon State involves the military, police, emergency services and local residents. The bodies of 15 victims have already been taken out of the water, and the search for the missing continues.
