The death toll from Pacific Typhoon Rai in the Philippines has risen to 169.
According to the newspaper The Manila Times, citing the authorities, 169 people became victims of typhoon "Rai", 107 were injured, and 50 are missing.
The Philippine authorities clarified that the largest death toll was recorded in the Central Visayas region, where 129 people became victims of the disaster, 22 in the Western Visayas, 10 in the Karaga region, seven in Northern Mindanao, and one more person died on the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Earlier it was reported about 75 victims of the typhoon.
The Hong Kong Meteorological Observatory on Thursday, December 16, noted that a new typhoon, the 22nd this season, called Rai, has formed in the western Pacific Ocean. The authorities of the Philippine region of the Eastern Visayas have evacuated more than 82 thousand residents due to a possible threat. People were relocated to 274 evacuation centers in South Leyte, Leyte, Samar, East Samar, North Samar and Biliran provinces.
According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting of Vietnam, the epicenter of Typhoon Rai is heading towards the Vietnamese province of Binh Dinh.
