She received 25 million rubles for general patronage of a contractor three years ago. Now she faces either a huge fine or a long sentence.
Basmanny court of Moscow arrested the Minister of Culture of Crimea Vera Novoselskaya, accused of taking a bribe of 25 million rubles (part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code), said the court. She will stay under arrest until January 17.
The official, in case of proving her guilt, will have to pay a fine significantly exceeding the amount of the bribe, or spend in custody from 8 to 15 years.
The investigation established that in 2018 Novoselskaya, in a substituted position, received a bribe from the beneficiary LLC Meander for patronage during the construction of a state center for children's theatrical art.
