The press service of the Ekaterinburg City Hall reported the death of Aina, a polar bear cub, a favorite of the regional capital's city zoo.
According to officials, the wild animal died in its 26th year of life. Forensic experts will conduct an autopsy and report the exact cause of death in the near future.
It is known that Aina for a long time (more than 20 years) was a friend of another polar bear named Umka, who died in 2021. The latter was brought to the zoo in Ekaterinburg in 1998 and began to look for a partner. In the same year, Aina, who was born in the Perm zoo, became Umka's neighbor in the aviary.
The mayor's office expressed sincere condolences on the demise of the polar bear.
Earlier it became known that the police in Moscow detained a vivisector who warmed the cat in the microwave.
