EMERCOM of Russia in the Irkutsk region reports a recorded earthquake in the south of Lake Baikal. Magnitude of the underground vibrations was 4.1 points.
"At about 06:08 Moscow time in 22 kilometers from the village of Tankhoi of the Republic of Buryatia in the water area of Lake Baikal underground tremors were recorded. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.6 on the epicenter and 4.1 on the Richter scale on the territory of Irkutsk Region", says the report of Regional EMERCOM.
The earthquake has occurred on the border of the Republic of Buryatia and the Irkutsk Region. According to the website of Baikal Branch of the Unified Geophysical Survey of Russia's Academy of Sciences, the tremors were felt in 47 settlements located in the two regions, their intensity varied from 2 to 5 points. In Tankhoy the magnitude was 4-5 points, in Irkutsk - 3-5 points and in Angarsk - 2-3 points.
Lake Baikal is located in the Baikal rift zone, which is characterized by high seismic activity.
