On Wednesday, September 14, gunfire erupted near a checkpoint between Israel and the Palestinian city of Jenin, Le Figaro reported.
Two Palestinians and an Israeli officer were killed Wednesday, September 14, in an exchange of fire near a checkpoint between Israel and the Palestinian city of Jenin in the West Bank, the Israeli army and the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
The army said in a statement that the officer was killed in an exchange of fire when "two suspects approached" the Jalameh checkpoint near Jenin in the northern West Bank. The identity of the dead officer has not been released at this time.
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah confirmed the deaths of "two young men" in the clashes. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, they are Ahmed Ayman Ibrahim Abed, 23, and Abdel Rahman Hani Subhi Abed, 22.
Following a series of anti-Israeli attacks in March in which 19 people were killed, the army stepped up its operations in the northern West Bank, especially in the Nablus and Jenin areas, where Palestinian armed groups are active.
These operations, often accompanied by clashes, have resulted in dozens of deaths on the Palestinian side and the arrest of more than 1,500 people in the occupied West Bank, according to Aviv Kochavi, head of the Israeli army.
