The father of the girls, who drowned the day before in Nikolsky Pond in Peterhof, unsuccessfully tried to save them.
According to an informed source of "Izvestia" in the law enforcement agencies, the man did not have the skills to rescue and resuscitate the victims in the water.
It also became known that both schoolgirls did not know how to swim. The tragedy occurred because of the younger sister's desire to prove to the older sister that she was not afraid of water. At the same time, the 12-year-old entered the water too deeply and began to sink. Her 14-year-old sister rushed to help, but she could not swim and went under water.
The victims' brother saw what was wrong and called the adults for help. By that time the girls' father was only able to pull the younger sister out of the water. The older sister finally sank.
The younger girl could not be saved. The body of her older sister was pulled out of the pond by the rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. It is noted that the family did not have the status of dysfunctional.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation confirmed the death of the girls in the Nikolskoye pond and opened a criminal case for negligent homicide.
