Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences informed about seismic events in the region.
According to scientists, the earthquake with magnitude 5.0 was recorded in the waters of the Avacha Gulf, near the eastern coastline of the peninsula. The first tremors hit the zone of reception of seismic sensors at 03:02 MST. May 15 (18:02 Moscow time on May 14).
The origin of the earthquake was located at a depth of 96 km under the seabed. Epicenter was localized in 78 km to the south-east from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Kamchatka region specified that residents of the capital of the region noted ground vibrations of up to 3 MSK. The agency announced two more earthquakes:
