5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred near the Kuril Islands

On the morning of October 12, seismologists registered an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 in the Pacific Ocean near the Kuriles (Sakhalin Region).

This was reported by TASS in the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the ministry, the earthquake occurred at 10.09 AM (02.09 AM Moscow time) near the northern group of the Kuril Islands. It is known that the depth of the focus was 101 kilometers.

Earthquake sensitivity data is currently being refined. At the same time, the threat of a tsunami was not declared.

Another seismic event happened 160 km from Petropavlovsk. The magnitude of the earthquake was estimated at 3.7. The inhabitants of the peninsula did not feel it.
