The detainees were protesting against the new president, Lula da Silva.
Today, January 12, the press office of the Federal Police of Brazil reported that more than two thousand people have been detained in the country after the mass pogroms. Of the total, 1,159 have been arrested by federal police and another 209 by civilian and military police.
Some of the detainees will await trial at large - these include the elderly, parents with children and people with health problems. It is worth noting that some of them required medical assistance.
Recall that protests in Brazil began last weekend. Supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro are protesting against the results of the presidential elections, which were won by socialist Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro's supporters are blocking roads, setting cars on fire and gathering in front of military buildings, calling on the armed forces to intervene in the situation.
