The timing of the construction of the high-speed railroad Moscow - Petersburg may be shifted. In addition, the project may be completely abandoned, Kommersant writes citing its sources.

Initially it was assumed that the main line will be built by 2027. Due to it, the travel time from one city to another should be reduced to 2.5 hours.

It is also reported that there are discussions on the creation of a dedicated freight line between the two capitals. According to one of Kommersant's sources, Russian Railways insists on it.

The newspaper's sources agree that the growth of freight traffic, for the sake of which it would be worth building such a route, is not expected.
