A plane carrying the country's Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine other people disappeared in Malawi on the morning of June 10.

The plane took off at 09:17 local time from the airport in the capital Lilongwe and was supposed to land an hour later in the north of the country at Mzuzu airport. However, the plane disappeared from radar and air traffic controllers were still unable to establish contact with the ship's crew.

Due to the incident, Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera canceled his planned visit to the Bahamas and ordered a search for the missing plane.

“President Chakwera <...> has ordered all regional and national agencies to conduct an immediate search and rescue operation to locate the aircraft,” Presidential and Cabinet Secretary Collen Zimba said in a statement.

It is known that Saulos Chilima was on its way to attend the funeral of lawyer Ralph Kasambara. The plane is suspected to have crashed in Chikangawa forest.

On May 19, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash. And last week it became known about the death in a helicopter crash of astronaut William Andres, a member of the Apollo 8 mission.
