The leader of the Turkish Innovation Party, Ozturk Yilmaz, was attacked with a knife by an unknown man.
Innovation Party leader Ozturk Yilmaz was wounded Wednesday in an attack by an unknown knife-wielding assailant, NTV reported. According to the channel, the attacker came to the party office in Ankara to meet with the deputy. At one point, he pulled out a knife and stabbed Yilmaz several times in the right leg. Paramedics arrived and took the victim to the hospital and a search is underway for the attacker.
The Turkish politician and diplomat previously worked in the Turkish embassies in Brazil, Kyrgyzstan and the EU mission. He has been a member of the Grand National Assembly since November 2015. In 2004, he was kidnapped by militants of the Islamic State (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) and held hostage for 101 days.
