Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of the region Vladimir Gordienko said that the incident occurred in Ust-Kamchatsky district.
According to RIA Novosti, the bear did not hibernate and attacked the watchman of a fishing and hunting base near the Yelovka River on December 5. The man suffered a bite wound on his foot and was saved from tragedy by dogs that drove the taiga predator away.
The victim was taken to the village of Klyuchi and received medical care. An emergency group of hunters tracked down and shot the roach bear. The latter was extremely exhausted and was unable to hibernate, Mr. Gordienko noted. It is noteworthy that the animal was found not far from the place of the attack on the watchman.
