A powerful downpour hit Sakhalin on the night of October 6. As a result, the streets of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk were under water. This was reported by the Novye Izvestia newspaper
Residents of the city are sharing apocalyptic footage on social networks. They show that the water reaches the hoods of cars. A state of emergency has been introduced in the city.
Also, six apartment buildings and more than 500 private houses in which more than 2.6 thousand people live were left without light in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Classes have been canceled in all schools in the city, as well as in Korsakov, Dolinsk districts and Troitskoye village of Anivsky district.
Authorities of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk urged citizens not to go out on the streets. Mayor Valery Limarenko said that the city's operational services are now making every effort to eliminate the consequences of the emergency as soon as possible, including the restoration of power supply.
