Vice-President of the Council of the Haute-de-France region, Franck Derain, who is responsible for the development of transport infrastructure, said on Twitter that the incident occurred on November 4 at about 18:30 local time (20:30 Moscow time) on a section of the railway that passes through Bo Mare quarter.

According to Derain, a train running between Dunkirk and Calais hit a group of migrants, killing one person and seriously injuring another. In addition, two other people were also injured, but their lives are currently not in danger.

The official clarified that all migrants are from Eritrea.

The vice-president of the regional council added that people were walking on the railroad in the pouring rain, and did not see the approaching train due to the lack of lighting. There were 17 passengers on the suburban train.

Amid the incident, train traffic between Dunkirk and Calais was interrupted. Its recovery is expected on Friday, November 5, morning.
