The publication Actu Cameroun, citing local residents, reported that in northern Cameroon an enraged hippo attacked two canoes with tourists and overturned them into the water. Seven people were killed.

The incident happened on the Logone River.

The Wildlife Conservation Society of Cameroon said that during the rainy season in the Far North region, hippos become more aggressive and attacks of these animals on humans are not uncommon.
