The Uruguayan prosecutor's office has issued an Interpol wanted list of Russian citizens. They are suspected of involvement in a scheme to forge documents to obtain citizenship of the republic.
According to El Pais, prosecutor Gabriela Fossati noted that the agency may expand the list of wanted persons. However, the total number of wanted persons was not specified.
Last week police arrested Alejandro Astesiano on suspicion of involvement in document forgery. He was the chief of security for President Luis Lacalle Powe.
According to investigators, Astesiano was part of a criminal group that forged birth certificates. This was necessary for those wishing to obtain Uruguayan citizenship. Among the clients of the criminal group were also Russian citizens.
