There was a tragedy in the Indian city of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh: 107 people, mostly women, became victims of a crush at a religious event. This is reported by the Hindustan Times, citing data from the state police. The incident occurred on Tuesday, after the address of the famous religious preacher Bhole Baba. According to survivors, the crush started when the event ended and everyone tried to leave the venue.

"A huge crowd of followers had gathered at the venue. There was no way out, everyone fell on top of each other and the crush started. When I tried to get out, parked motorcycles turned out to be outside and blocked my way. Many fainted and others died," says the victim, who was admitted to a nearby hospital.

The exact cause of the incident is still being investigated, but it is clear that the chaotic evacuation of a huge crowd of people without a clear plan of action and control led to tragic consequences. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep regret over the incident and directed authorities in and around Hathras to speed up rescue operations and provide relief to the victims.

"He also directed to investigate the causes of the incident under the leadership of Agra police chief and Commissioner Aligarh," the state chief minister's press office said on social media X.

The deadly mishap of five Indian soldiers during the crossing of the Shayok River on a tank was reported earlier by the Indian authorities. The death of the military, as specified in the local Ministry of defense, was triggered by an accident on the water. The deadly incident occurred near the line separating India and China in Ladakh.
