According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, 63 people who participated in a protest against the law on foreign agents have been detained in Tbilisi. According to the Rustavi2 TV channel, the detentions took place on Rustaveli Avenue during the rally.
Interior Ministry officers detained 63 people on the facts of petty hooliganism and disobedience to lawful demands of the police at a rally on Rustaveli Avenue, Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Darakhvelidze said.
Earlier, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Darakhvelidze reported three injured police officers as a result of the dispersal of the April 30 rally. There were also reports about the beating of the chairman of the opposition United National Movement party Levan Khabeishvili. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called on law enforcement agencies to stop dispersing protesters.
The law on foreign agents is under consideration in the Georgian parliament for a second reading.
